Writing Workshop

Our writing workshop is starting to roll now. Students have learned about the writing process and how writers get ideas from their "hearts". They have written their first pieces in their notebooks. We shared their paragraphs and learned how writers give each other helpful feedback. We used the following starters to help us form our feedback: 1. I really liked... 2. A word that popped... 3. I'm wondering... 4. I was confused by... 5. Can you tell me more about... Here is a video showing Mrs. Dees and Alex discussing his paragraph on fishing. Alex's next step in writing will be to take the feedback and see if he wants to "revisit" his paragraph and add more details. Of course, he is in charge of his writing, and he may choose to leave this piece and choose another topic.

Looks like a great start to your workshop. I was impressed by how much Alex knows about fishing and would love to see what he ends up doing with his paragraph.

Boy, would I love to be a part of your writing workshop! The part of workshop I always liked best was revising! It is exciting to think like a reporter, or a movie writer, or a tv producer, and make your story the best it can be! But before you can revise, you need to get feedback from an audience so you know what is working and what is not. This feedback time is really cool. Hope you all can share some of your furuture writings with us!

This boy has a lot to say. You can only write what you know. It sounds like he has lots of fishing stories to tell.

Sorry I spelled "future" incorrectly. Anybody catch that? LOL
