Book Fair-Wow

Our book fair was great this year-wonderful books, wonderful parents, and lots of fun. Thanks Mrs. Freeburg for this great event. I have to send a huge thank you to those parents who purchased books for our classroom. I know the kids are going to love reading these-I brought them home this weekend so that I could choose which one to read first-a very difficult decision. Here's what we received:
Everything but the Kitchen Sink by Frieda Wishinsky from Drew and BJ
Seekers by Erin Hunter from Seth and Angela
The Dark Pond by Joseph Bruchac from McKenzie and Deborah
The Treasures of Weatherby by Zilpha Keatley Snyder and Fairy Haven and the Quest for the Wand by Gail Carson Levine from Chad and Jennifer. In todays world reading skills are more important than ever. The only way for students to improve their reading skills is by practicing and the best way to get them to practice is by providing them with fun and interesting reading material. So again, thanks to everyone who participated in the book fair.

Reporter Destiny H.

Yesterday we had so much fun. We did Adjectives, Nouns, and Verbs in Mrs. Evans' class and wrote Thanksgiving Poems. After that we talked about our story we are reading, Shades of Gray, in Mrs. Heaberlin's class. Then we went to Mr. Exner's and the first thing we did was play a game. Then we went to lunch. After lunch we went outside and played four square for a long time. We went inside and finished our game. He gave us homework. We went back to Mrs. Evans' class and got ready for specials. Today was computer lab.

Note from Mrs. Evans: Isn't it great how even language and writing become "fun" activities with our new Promethean Board!

A Normal Day Reported by Marissa

Nov. 5th 2008
Today we had a normal day. We did Language, and we tried to watch a video of Barack Obama's acceptance speech, but the internet was not working. For lunch we had fried chicken or pork roast. Lunch was good, and we had watermelon. Mr. Exner is showing us how alcohol is made. It is a chemical change. You change sugar to alcohol which is called bioconversion. Today we had music and practiced our recorders. Again, a normal day.

Lauren's Oregon Trail diary

May 2, 1835
We've been traveling over a month, we started off at Independence, MO on March 25, 1835. We started on the Oregon trail as soon as winter broke. We have to make it to Oregon City before next winter. We're camping tonight at the base of Chimney Rock. To me it looks like a finger pointing up to heaven. Mama says, "Thank the heavens that we got this far." She really worried last week when the lightening storm came. We all got in the wagon and prayed. Eventually the rain stopped and all we lost was a little time, but we were able to keep on moving.
